H has never been keen on loud noises so I had completely dismissed the idea of going to a fireworks display. Not to miss out though, we opted for sitting and looking out of the window to see all the pretty colours. But, the rest of the world it seemed had gone off to an organised display because not many fireworks were going off around us. “No fireworks Mummy? No pink, no green?”. Those words, accompanied by a look of real disappointment, prompted me to throw us both in to the car and pop up to a display nearby.
As a family we have been to this one for years so I knew exactly where to look for everyone. I had rushed out of the house so quickly that I had no phone, no pram, and no wellies. It was a bitter-sweet occasion as it was the first time we had been to a family event without my brother-in-law – who sadly passed away in May – and it hit a few of us quite hard. But once again H lightened the mood by squealing and jigging about, his face breaking out in to a smile at every bang and whoosh. It was impossible not to smile back.
Auntie Susie came to stay for a long weekend and she took H to the Zoo. We go there so often that it pays to have an annual pass. From previous posts you will know that we all love it there. Unfortunately I was in work, but I kept receiving updates and some great photos to cheer me up. I had to laugh at this photo. You could pick your own caption to accompany it, but mine is most definitely – “evolution??”
At the weekend we popped over to see the grandparents and attended a display that Grandad helps to put together. This occasion was a little less rushed and I managed to take a camera, H’s dinosaurs, and some wellies for us both. It was great that we were all together because Daddy hadn’t been able to go to the ones on Thursday. I had felt really guilty going to H’s first fireworks display without him. After the show we stopped at the community centre to buy some bangers – sausages that is. A sausage butty (all of us), a few shandies (us, not him), and a quick run about (him, not us) topped off a lovely evening.
So in a week when he wasn’t even going to go to one display, we ended up going to two. I think we can categorically say that he has overcome his fear of loud noises.
Have a good week.
Love
