Month of Firsts – January 2016

Month of Firsts – January 2016

It’s that time of the month again when I round-up all the firsts that we have achieved in the month – warts and all.  It was a series of posts I started because I was struggling to keep track of what you did and when you did it.  Some of the things make me laugh, some frustrate me and others are just magical.  All moments worth sharing and keeping for future reading.  So, Harry this is what you got up to in January:

  • Pretended to be a Doctor
    • You demonstrated your bedside manner by rubbing Daddy’s tummy better when he felt poorly.  However you had spaghetti bolognaise on your hands and he had on his favourite green jumper.
    • You also tried to listen to Mummy’s heart…..by putting the stethoscope on my eye socket!
    • You used the wet wipes as blankets to cover your poorly dinosaurs whilst declaring “that’s better” to your patients.
  • Went through a car wash which you described as a “play barn for cars”.
  • Trekked – for what felt like miles – to meet The Gruffalo.  Thank goodness there were loads of muddy puddles enroute to keep you distracted from how far we walked.  And all because Daddy didn’t want to pick up a map, which as it turns out, would have shown us that there was a short cut for little people.
  • Had clippers used on your hair (Grade 4) – my eyes almost popped out of my head as your hair fell to the floor.  Grade 4 sounded long to me.  I caught the look of shock on my face in the mirrors and quickly changed my expression.  Thank goodness you sat there long enough for her to blend it all in.  Thank you, thank you, thank you.
  • Asked to go to the potty and proceeded to have a poo – RESULT.
  • Got enrolled for pre-school.  I need you to know that this entire process broke my heart.  I wrestled with where to send you and in what order to choose the schools.  But most of all I agonised over whether you were ready to go to pre-school because you are still just my baby. I guess we will just have to see how that works out.  No doubt you will be ready for it before I am.
  • Mastered a scooter.
  • Hand fed squirrels.
  • Learnt to play “jizzles” on the (com)”puter”.  You have now made claim to this computer.  It is Mummy’s that I mainly use for downloading books to take on holiday, but I have accepted that I may never get it back.  Even if I did there is so much food debris on the screen that I would never be able to see anything on it.
  • Learnt how to squirt water out of your mouth – nice one Daddy (sarcasm).  You were so proud of your new party trick that when I took you swimming you tried it out on a little girl that you had been flirting with.  She was less than impressed when you squirted her straight in the face with a mouthful of pool water.  #epicfail
  • Left your dinosaurs in the supermarket – I turned the car around on a sixpence to quickly get back to the shop.  Luckily they were still there.  You must have sensed my mood as you were very quiet on the way home.  As we neared our house you piped up and said “sorry Mummy it was an accident”.  I melted.
  • Met Peppa Pig
But my favourite part of the month was when you asked me to jump in the bath with you – I wanted an early night so this suggestion killed two birds with one stone – and then once in you suggested a game of hide and seek.  You hid behind me and at regular intervals popped over either shoulder to let me know where you were so that I could “find you”.  We both enjoyed it so much that we played until the water was too cold to stay in. Magical.
Love you x

Aww I loved reading this as we always try and write a list of the new things Mia does each month, its incredible how much they get up to! I love that your little one met Peppa, that was a major milestone in my Mia’s life! and how cute that he recognised he had accidently left his dinosaurs at the shop, so sweet! 🙂

This is such a lovely post, and a great way to remember all the firsts that might otherwise be forgotten! Harry sounds adorable, and a lot like my little George, he too loves a bath with Mummy, I’ve even taught him to wash my hair for me haha. xx

oh I cried when Adam was accepted to pre-school, I got the letter at the post office and the lady asked me if I was disappointed with which one he was selected in to? I said no, he got into the one we wanted I was just devastated that he was going! It broke my heart that my baby was growing up! I love how he is fixing his daddy and your heart-eye and making the dinosaur all better with wipes, that is adorable! Thanks for linking up beautiful xx #mg

Beautiful post! The process of enrolling in play school really is hard, isn’t it? I still can’t quite figure out how my tiny babies became big enough to be away from me! #mg

Awww I love this post – what a great idea to record firsts! The bath game sounds like great fun and how sweet of him to say “sorry mummy it was an accident” after the dinosaur incident!

My youngest is due to start pre-school in september and started nursery 2 mornings a week last september. I didn’t think he was ready but he has absolutely loved it and thrived. I am sure your boy will be the same.

Thank you for linking up to #KCACOLS and I hope to see you back again on sunday x
