The best way I can sum up this weeks Week at a Glance is “a right mixed bag”. Here’s why…..
I got a taster of the Terrible Two’s this week. I let him walk around the zoo – with the ulterior motive of tiring him out so I could finish a cup of coffee whilst it was still hot and eat a cake without having to share it – but he had to hold my hand. When he got peckish I handed him his sandwich. BUT he wanted a bit in both hands. So like all the good books say I got down to his level and explained why he couldn’t do and hold my hand at the same time. At which point he slapped me in the face…twice. Within seconds he was back in the pram (despite the interesting shapes he pulled) and we walked away. Me in silence, him crying his eyes out. I have no idea what the books say about my reaction and quite frankly, I don’t care.
We also went swimming. It all started well with him dancing a jig of joy in reception and telling anyone listening what we were there for. And then, cue another tantrum. Of all things, Harry was completely freaked out by the black tiles on the swimming pool floor. Every time we went over them – and it was impossible not to – he climbed up me causing a wardrobe malfunction. I lost count of the number of times I flashed the pool attendants and other parents! As the water was so cold they rang afterwards and offered us a free session next week. If they knew who they were calling they might never have invited me back again. (There is no photo for this as NO-ONE on t’interweb is going to see a picture of me in a swim suit, so I threw a random one in of him holding a balloon – there is no hidden meaning).
The week finished with me having a good catch up with my besties. We all have children so after 9 months of trying we eventually got together to take part in a singing experience that they bought me for my birthday. Now for those of you that read my recent post http://mylittlecheekymonkey.com/2015/04/27/singing/ you will know that I do not possess any singing ability. It was BRILLIANT. Our band name “Dog Rough” was only slightly more dodgy that our singing but I still reckon we could do OK on X-Factor.

Have a great week everyone.
Love

Oh! The terrible twos sound… well… terrible. We’re starting to get tantrum tasters, but nothing too major yet. I think your reaction was probably good. Not actually responding to the slap, but putting him down in his pram and walking away. Of, course, I’m not an expert. But, it’s similar to what I had to do when Pumpkin went through a biting phase. Your singing experience sounds fab – and probably more fun without any singing abilities. Thanks for joining #myweekataglance. :-)

I am so not looking forward to moments like yours at the park/pool… but never mind the books, every kid and every parent’s different right?
